When the x-ray has been invented more than one hundred years ago, then we are able to see inside the human body. Then doctors are understood how our bodies work. Radiology is very nearly related with x-ray. In more specifically we told that Radiology is the medical specialty directing medical imaging technologies to diagnose and sometimes treat diseases. Radiologists are doctors trained to use their knowledge of medicine and technology to diagnose disease and injury with the use of internal imaging devices such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanners.
If anybody wants to be radiologists then its a very long process. At first he entered four years of college and four more of medical school. After completing the medical schools then go to another five years of residency. Radiologists get tested all the way along, from college into medical school and from medical school into residency.
Like all physicians, radiologists are required to complete courses of continued medical education. In addition, radiologists can now become proficient in other areas such as neuro radiology, pediatric, and interventional radiology.
Radiology that involves use of x-ray is called roentgenology. Today, following extensive training, radiologists direct an array of imaging technologies (such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging) to diagnose or treat disease.
The radiologist, through extensive clinical work and related research, can also sub specialize. Radiologist - Breast imaging, Radiologist - Cardiovascular, Radiologist – Chest, Radiologist – Emergency, Radiologist - Head and Neck, etc is the different types of specialization.
Medicine and the practice of radiology are going through major, rapid, even jarring change. The practice of radiology is supposedly the most threatened of specialties with challenges coming from the managed care industry. |
